Rapid prototyping, rapid tooling, rapid / additive manufacturing
Prof. Dr.-Ing Andreas Gebhardt, CP – Centrum für Prototypenbau GmbH
Generative manufacturing processes were introduced to the wider public as "rapid prototyping" processes over 20 years ago. They have started a triumphal march, mainly through industrial product development under different names. The development towards higher precision, better component qualities and a significantly expanded range of materials has in the meantime also opened up direct manufacturing using generative processes and made customised small series possible for increasingly more industries.
Since 2004, the Rapid.Tech trade fair has devoted itself to these new manufacturing technologies and has been presenting, along with the techniques, interesting industry solutions. This year, dentistry, medicine and aviation will be the focus.
With each new industry application the trade fair organisers have to bring the "insiders" and the "newcomers" to having a level of information that is as uniform as possible. Therefore, there is now a pre-session for all those who are newcomers to the topic area. In two 2-hour sessions the necessary foundations of generative manufacturing techniques will be clearly laid, using models and components, so that the lectures and the trade exhibitions can discuss only the most innovative developments.
