STUDENT DESIGN AWARD 2012

Ideas become Reality

From the “ArachNOphobia” walking robot to the “morphogenetic jewellery” jewellery range, anything is possible - using the established procedure of additive or rapid manufacturing. They facilitate direct production of end products, while providing them with their unique properties. Computer-designed objects are manufactured layer-by-layer using 3D printers.

The works submitted for the STUDENT DESIGN AWARD for Rapid Manufacturing, which will be awarded for the sixth time as part of Rapid.Tech 2012, are evaluated by industry and design experts. The AWARD, which is aided by the main sponsor Objet GmbH and the "Stiftung für Technologie, Innovation und Forschung Thüringen (STIFT)", is alltogether endowed with 6000 €. Furthermore the winning submissions will be produced by famous companies and presented during the Rapid.Tech 2012.
The winning objects are produced by renowned companies and presented as part of the trade fair. For the winners, this opens up valuable industry contacts for their careers.

The prize is aimed at students, who deal with generative production procedures and the perspectives for design activity deriving from this. The participants are expected to grapple with the individualisation opportunities of products as part of the rapid manufacturing procedure.
